SPORTS ACTIVITIES

§Baseball & Softball
Play Ball! Take Me Out To A Ball Game!If you have children or simply love the sport Northern Virginia hosts many great baseball teams. Girls Softball is a Growing
Sport! From the National Capitols in DC to the Potomac Nationals the Major League Farm team of the DC Nationals, its great to be a baseball fan. Thanks to the National Little League you are only a click away from getting your child involved in baseball or softball. You can also find local leagues for your area by visiting the Virginia Little League site which lists all of the little league and District assignments. §Basketball
Many leagues run basketball during the winter months, although you can find a few that operate year round. Most basketball leagues can be found at one of these sites: Jr NBA or ETeamz.

§Football
Football is available in most schools not to mention the area youth leagues. In addition to the school teams there are numerous football leagues throughout Northern Virginia. Don't wait until September to look for a football team...you'll be too late! start tryouts and practice in early August!!!

§Lacrosse
Lacrosse is a growing sport in the area as can be seen by the number of teams and leagues. Visit SportsCombine or Triple Edge for information on teams as well as training and camps. §Soccer
DC United isn't the only
soccer game in town! Click here for youth soccer activities.Many people joke about Soccer Moms, but those that do have never been to a match. The Northern Virginia Area is home to one of the nations most popular soccer teams DC United. Soccer is a widely popular sport in the area and each season most leagues have waiting lists. We found the most complete list of Recreational Soccer Leagues here. As you can see some Counties have more than one league due to the popularity of the sport. For the more seasoned players there are travel leagues and travel clubs. You can also find information on the Olympic Development Program and on referee training at this site. Freedom Aquatic & Fitness Center or the Soccer Academy has lessons available for children of all ages.

§Tennis
Although most tennis activities are done in the late spring through early fall, there a some areas that offer indoor tennis for year round enjoyment of the sport. for adults, many schools have clubs. Chess is an ancient game that has definitely stood the test of time. It is a great way to excerise your critical thinking skills and has become very popular in many schools - including elementary schools!   • SpotsyChess Club's website which ocassionally contains information on nearby scholastic tournaments is located in Spotsylvania County.

According to the Virginia Four-H website:

    Four-H is the youth development education program of Virginia Cooperative Extension. Four-H is committed to assisting youth, and those adults working with them, in acquiring the knowledge, life skills, and attitudes that will enable them to become self-directing, contributing, and productive members of society. The central theme of 4-H education is "learn by doing." Four-H participants are all youth, age 5 to 19."
